Past, Present, and Future

My name is Hector Cortes I was born in Madera, California on November 11, 1991. I have two sisters and two brothers. I had a normal childhood, I lived in a good neighborhood, had lots of friends, and went to a good elementary school. Most of my memories are from visiting Mexico. As a child, we visited Mexico every two years. I remember eating Mexican candy so much that it made me sick. I attended Madera South High School and graduated in 2009. After high school I attended college while working full time at Chukchansi Casino. While I was working there, I met a beautiful woman, and we got married.  A few months after I decided to join the Navy.

I am currently 22 years old and stationed in Port Hueneme. I work as a logistics specialist. I’m in charge of supplying the battalion with all the essential equipment that is needed. I love being in the navy because it’s very rewarding. It gives me the opportunity to travel, and support my family. Being in the navy and going to school full time is challenging, but at the same time, motivating.

In the future I want to obtain my bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. I plan on using my degree to become a naval officer. I want to retire from the military as a lieutenant or higher. I also plan on buying a house and raising a family with my wife.

  10. Thank you for serving our country! It must be hard to maintain that kind of career and go to school full time. Good luck with getting your Bachelor's Degree, seems like you're on the right path.

  11. The fact that you have so much drive to be a Fire Fighter, means you'll have a much better chance. I hear Oxnard College has an amazing program, good luck.
